Attack on Titan X Marvel Super Heroes

Marvel Comics Senior VP C.B. Cebulski announced on Twitter that The Avengers and characters from Attack on Titan would meet in a crossover comicbook series.

This “What If” comic has the honor of being the first American comic book company to cross-promote with a major Japanese manga series, which has not have been done before. This is a crossover between Marvel Comics and Attack on Titan.

It is a brief story when the Female Titan, revealed to be Annie Leonhart, appears in modern-day New York City and wreaks havoc. The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy have teamed up to take on the Female Titan.

While Marvel has done something major, it does risk botching the story in more ways than one.

If you have neither read the manga nor watched the anime, Attack on Titan takes place far in the future in some sort of post-apocalyptic world. Humanity was nearly wiped out by towering giants called Titans, who are driven by one thing: hunger. Even though the Titans have no digestive system, they are constantly eating people for no known reasons. A handful of human survivors take refuge in a walled up city, based off the German city of Bavaria, where the walls are towering. Humans live in “peace” for a hundred years until the Titans mysteriously return. The mysterious Colossal Titan shows up and smashes up the wall letting the other Titans enter the city where they massacre the humans again.

Protagonist Eren Jeager, witnessing the horrific and grisly death of his mother by a Titan, vows revenge and trains to become a member of the Survey Corps. He is driven with the mission to wipe out every single Titan from the planet.

A crossover between Marvel Comics and Attack on Titan is original and refreshing, but the story risks going “south.” In Attack on Titan, the heroes are mostly regular humans that use special 3D maneuver gear to move around to kill the Titans. If you have read or watched Attack on Titan, you know that even the 3D maneuver gear has its limitations.

Marvel, in contrast with Attack on Titan, has people and other beings that possess extraordinary and superhuman abilities.

The comic was initially released in Japan, but the rest of the world will get the chance to check out this major crossover.
